About Us

Who we are?

Micah is a partnership of faith communities with Richmond Public Elementary Schools that mentors, tutors, and volunteers through its vibrant network of faith communities and 23 schools so that every child believes, “I am valuable.”

Micah is open to and represented by all faith communities.

What do we do?

Micah volunteers do everything from tutoring to reading to classrooms to one-time projects like Dr. Suess Day and Career Day. Our volunteers come from diverse backgrounds and have many various gifts that they offer to the schools. This is the beauty of Micah — the opportunities are endless, based on the school’s need.

How we do what we do?

We can be a multi-faith community of volunteers because at the core of our volunteering, it is not about proselytizing. It is about living out our individual faiths in action. It is about believing that the students and education are worth our service.

Why we do what we do?

Every child deserves to know that they matter and every child has boundless potential. Therefore, each child should be encouraged. Volunteers provide a source of positive and consistent encouragement that can change a child’s world. Although diverse, we all have a desire to serve our schools, teachers, and students in common. That is why we do what we do.

There are approximately 12,000 students in the schools that Micah serves, but only 1,600 volunteers. There is a need and there are ways to get involved. Check out the “Volunteer Opportunities” page to see how you can get involved.
