Open Doors for Students – Be a Summer Camp Sponsor

It’s that time again! Summer camp registration is opening up soon. Have you thought about sponsoring a student?

Summer camps are opportunities for students to have enriching life experiences that build character, self-esteem, and skills which benefit them inside and outside the classroom. Here are just a few of the many camp opportunities that you could be a sponsor for. 

Residential Camps Ideas:

Cynthia at Camp

Cynthia was able to have a great experience at camp thanks to her sponsor.

All God’s Children Camp – Methodist camp at Westview on the James for children 7 –12 whose mother or father is/has been incarcerated. Date: August 10 – 15 Cost: $10 per camper or family.

Camp Alkulana – Richmond Baptist Association camp in Millboro Springs, Va. It is a camp for inner city children from Richmond.

Camp Hanover – Presbyterian camp in Mechanicsville with a range of camp programs and lengths for different ages. Dates: Various dates available.
Cost: $400 per week, scholarship probably available

Camp Sandy Cove – A Christian camp in West Va.
Dates: Various throughout the summer
Cost: Approx. $615 per week, but they will give 1⁄2 scholarships available

4-H Camp – One week camp near Jamestown. Dates: Aug 11- 16 Cost: $270

Day Camps Ideas:

St. Christopher’s City Saints Camp – for academically-oriented boys in grades 3 and 4. Two week camp with academic enrichment, swimming, and other sports. Free.

Visual Arts Center of Richmond – There are possibilities of some scholarships for individual students

Lobs and Lessons at VCU Mary and Frances Youth Center – Includes tutoring, tennis, and swimming Cost: $125 for one week. Need-base scholarships available.

Green Adventure Summer Camp – at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Various camps for various ages. Cost: $135 for a 5 day camp

Latin Ballet of Virginia – 2 Week Camp Sessions for $375 http://www.latinballet.com/index.php/classes/summer-day-camp

Virginia Museum of Fine Arts – 5 Day sessions on various art topics running from July 7 – August 29
